24 Apr 2008 - New Build Update

Pictured above is the deisgn of the new community centre for Burdiehouse and Southhouse. This facility will replace the existing building. The new build has been held up over the last 10 months for various reasons but was given the go ahead at a meeting of the Council on March 18th 2008.  This followed on from serious frustrations from local people being voiced in various ways. There was a petition signed by 712 people and a film made by youngsters showing the need for such a facility to be developed.

The new facility includes a dance and fitness studio, a cafe area, a creche, an art room, a bigger IT suite, a sports hall and meeting space.

The Management Committee are looking forward to developing the programme of activities to reflect the needs of the community. This will mean that we will be able to maximise the use of the new building from its first day of opening.

The Council confirmed this week that negotiations between themselves and the new contractor are nearly finished and the new contractor should be ready to start on site within a cople of weeks. A project manager has been appointed and new build design group meetings will recommence to help see the project through.

The Management Committee would welcome along any residents who would like to help plan groups, activities and the facilities for the new building or be part of the new build design group.
